Mechanical Engineering
The Mechanical Engineering Department of Al-Kabir Polytechnic was started in the year of 1994 with an intake capacity of 30 students which gradually increased to 180 students with the years. Over the last 25 years, we have grown our expertise and competence in the core Mechanical Engineering curriculum and research. The department is well equipped with sophisticated laboratories and modern infra-structure facilities like Material Testing Lab, Hydraulic Lab, Engg. Mechanics Lab, CAD/CAM Lab, Power Engg Lab, CNC Lab, Thermal Engg Lab, Machine Shop, & Workshop which enables to achieve the objectives like identifying, formulating and solving complex Mechanical Engineering problems along with equipping and training the students to develop, research, design and supervise the operation’s of various mechanical machines in industries and daily life.
VISION
To become a center of excellence in the field of imparting education in Mechanical Engineering and developing skill on par with the eminent institutions of the country and guide the students to become responsible citizens and competent professionals.
MISSION
- To impart high quality education in Mechanical Engineering and related skills for the uplift of students and thus the society at large.
- To become a regional focal point in human resource development and other training activities related with Mechanical Engineering field by good institution-industry exposure and interaction.
- To aim and upgrade faculty for higher education with continuous improvement in the areas related to technical and scientific knowledge.
- To practice and promote high standard of professional ethics, transparency and accountability.
LAB DESCRIPTION
The department is well equipped with state of the art laboratories and modern infra/structure facilities.
Material Testing lab
Our material testing lab is well equipped with Universal Testing Machine, Hardness Testing Machine, Toughness and Torsional Testing Machine etc. The aim of the laboratory is to understand & analyze various types of loads, stresses, and strains along with the main cause of the failure. The subject is pre requisite for understanding principle of Machine design, Understanding mechanical properties of materials will help in selecting the suitable materials for various engineering applications.
Fluid Mechanics provides the theoretical foundation of hydraulics, which focuses on the engineering uses of fluid properties. We have Reciprocating and Centrifugal pump, Pelton Wheel and Francis Water Turbine, and many more to enhance the practical knowledge of students. Hydraulics machines have important role in power generation control and transmission, Water supply, irrigation and also in most of engineering segments.
The aim of the laboratory experiment is to develop through understanding of basic concept, laws and other principles of mechanics. Also to solve engineering problems of mechanical devices like Screw Jack, Winch Crab, Worm and Worm Wheel, Flywheel and Jib Crane etc. The subjects provide knowledge about the different types of forces/Loads their effects while acting in different condition. The subject is also provides the knowledge about basic concept of laws of engineering, their applications to different engineering problem.
Our Power engineering lab is well equipped with Refrigeration Test Rig, Air Compressor, Diesel Engine, Petrol Engine Test Rig, Window Air Conditioning Test Rig etc. The subject also provides the knowledge about basic concept of power of engineering, their applications to different engineering problem. Hence it is necessary to understand constructional features and thermodynamics aspects of air compressor. Diploma students should understand the fundamentals of refrigeration and air conditioning as there are many industrial applications.
The aim of the laboratory experiment is to practical training in the field of CAD (Computer aided drafting) and CAM (Computer aided manufacturing)
CNC Lab
The aim of the laboratory experiment is to develop programming skills in the field of Machining with CNC machines. Also this lab is help the student to get familiarize with working principle and operations performed on Windows based CNC Turning & CNC Milling Machine.
This lab deals with skill development of students about various machines, Machine tools and equipments. The knowledge of basic machine shop such as Lathe Machine, Grinding Machine, Milling Machine, Shaper Machine, Drilling Machine etc. The subject also provides the knowledge about conventional machining, and their applications to different engineering problems and industrial areas.
This lab deals with skills shared with students of various machine tools and equipment. The knowledge of basic workshop such as a wood working, fitting, welding, plumbing and sheet metal shop is essential for technician to perform his/her duties in industries. Working in workshop develops the attitude of group working and safety awareness.
