The Department of Computer Science & Engineering was introduced at Al-Kabir Polytechnic, Jamshedpur in 1998. The department was initially having 30 intake of students as per AICTE norms and it increased to 90 students in 2002. Vision The Department aims to be recognized for its eminence in the field of Computer Science & Engineering by continuously striving to achieve excellence in education, research, and innovation by imparting technological services to the society and to produce competent, self-motivated professionals.   About the Course: Computer Science & Engineering Department of Al-Kabir Polytechnic offers course that emphasizes the fundamental concepts of computer science, treating today’s languages and systems as current examples of the underlying concepts. By educating students to think conceptually, we are preparing them to adapt to developments in this dynamic field. The study of Computer Science within a liberal arts environment hones students’ skills in problem solving, critical thinking, and clear and concise communication. Developing these skills create students a well prepared for employment in industry. Computer engineering students study the design of hardware and software systems including communications systems, and devices. Computer science is the study of design, development, implementation, support and management of computer-based software applications and computer hardware. The department educate the following subjects to its students in the three years diploma course. The prominent among them includes Computer Graphics, Java Programming, Network Security, Data Structure and Algorithm, Data Communication and Computer Networking, Computer Hardware and Peripherals, Web Technology etc. Apart from these, students are also offered a wide variety of electives subjects like Animation and Multimedia, Cloud Computing, Image Processing, Data Mining, Artificial Intelligence, Mobile Computing, Advance Web Technology etc.   Infrastructure : The Department has well equipped laboratories with State-of-the-Art facilities. There are total seven computer Labs that consists of approx. 360 computers with latest hardware & software configurations. Computer Laboratories :

 Activities: The Department of Computer Science & Engineering are doing following activities which are given below :
  • NPTEL stands for National Programme for Technology Enhanced Learning : It is a joint project of seven IITs and IISC Bangalore funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. It is now possible to do an online certification course from NPTEL and get a certificate from the IITs. IITs are reaching out and taking education to the homes of people through this initiative.
  • Spoken Tutorial: An initiative of National Mission on Education through ICT, Government of India, to promote IT literacy through Open Source Software. It is Audio / Video tools to teach open source Software by IIT Bombay.
  • Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY): It is the flagship scheme of the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE). The objective of this Skill Certification Scheme is to enable a large number of Indian youth to take up industry-relevant skill training that will help them in securing a better life.
  • Online Examination: This is the first institution in Jharkhand that started conducting the online examination from 2010 with the support of the Dept. of Computer Sc. and Engg.
  Achievements  : The Department of Computer Science & Engg. has developed many software for Al-Kabir Polytechnic and these software are being maintained by the department.
