INTRODUCTION

The Genesis and Journey

Al-Kabir Polytechnic is one of the units of Kabir Welfare Trust (KWT). It was born out of the relentless effort and vision of the trustees of Kabir Welfare Trust, under the chairmanship of Late Haji Abdul Hakim. Kabir welfare trust is a society established under society registration act 1860. The Al-Kabir Polytechnic was established in the year 1990 with the financial aid of Islamic Development Bank (IDB) Jeddah. Since then this premier institute has been offering three years diploma course in six branches of engineering with great passion and zeal.

Along with this, over the years the institute has also ventured out into discharging social responsibilities such as spreading awareness in terms of health hygiene and skill development for surrounding communities to help them lead a healthy life and generate means of livelihood. In brief, the institute is actively partnering government initiatives on social development and self dependence. On and off the institute has also been engaging with other organizations for vocational training and employment for its students.

Since its inception, Al-Kabir Polytechnic has established its reputation as a talent pool for the industries as well as the degree colleges for higher education. True to its name, Kabir Welfare Trust, has been committed to the welfare of the society, particularly that of the backward classes and the minorities. Forging ahead its philanthropic vision, the trust envisions offering to the society, a university in the near future. The institute takes pride in its highly qualified and talented faculties who have moulded the organization and the students in this intensively competitive and demanding world. Akin to a tradition in excellence, the polytechnic continues to impart the highest quality of education in the field of engineering.

 

The Campus and The Institute

The institute is ideally located at the foothills the Dalma range surrounded by lush green surroundings, giving scenic backdrop. It is located at a distance of 12 kms from Tatanagar railway station and about 4 kms from Mango bus stand, thereby distancing it from the hustle and bustle of city life being very close to the main city itself. This provides peaceful atmosphere for the students and faculties to engage in academics.

The Institute is spread over 10 acres of land with 1.60.000 square feet comprising of buildings. The polytechnic constitutes of three separate double storied buildings along with an in house nationalized bank. It also incorporates well equipped laboratories, workshops, engineering drawing hall, seminar hall, common room, lecture halls, library and a sprawling playground for outdoor games. Audio visual training, guest lectures, workshop sessions, seminars and industrial visits are a routine at Al-Kabir Polytechnic. It has three hostels accommodating 200 students with a separate hostel for girls.

The polytechnic has a well arranged and organized mess, dining hall and canteen, which is fssai certified and offers fresh, delicious and nourishing meals. The food supplied by the canteen and the mess, is regularly audited by a food inspection team to ensure hygiene, quality and food value. There is a full-fledged market place situated at half kilometer from the institute which caters to all sorts of requirements of daily needs.
